I am an educator and researcher — that’s been both my vocation and my passion. I love unraveling mysteries, especially ones where the conventional thinking is outdated, and inspiring and empowering people with information that is going to make their lives better.
Almost 25 years ago, I was a highly successful college professor hiding from my past, acting out dangerously, and drinking and eating irresponsibly. My mental and physical health suffered greatly.
For me, the first step in healing was changing what and how I ate, eliminating all convenience foods, including ultra-processed foods and fast foods, along with all sugary drinks.
Changing my diet was the cornerstone for me. Next came a change in perspective about exercise and its importance to health. I lost weight, gained mental clarity, and felt stronger, better.
But my mental health was still an issue because I had grown up in a family that swept everything under the rug; perhaps you can relate. The demons kept telling me that I didn’t deserve a life filled with love and happiness — and I listened to them for far too long.
Finally, about 15 years ago, I started my healing journey, using long and solitary times in nature to truly face and excise my demons. I learned to forgive myself and others, which led to the most beautiful and profound experience of learning to love myself — and to let others love me.
The final step for me was using psychedelic plant medicines to understand and integrate the final bits of old trauma, which led to such a deep transformation and growth in my spirituality and outlook on life. The result of all this work is the strong desire to help everyone achieve health and healing, which leads us to this book — and YOU.
